Reading Snow Emergency
Either the Mayor or the Safety Services Director can declare a snow emergency, which will be broadcasted on local radio and television stations. While the snow emergency is in effect, streets designated as snow emergency routes must be cleared of parked vehicles so emergency crews can get through.
Additionally, motorists are prohibited from operating vehicles on such streets if the vehicle is not appropriately equipped. Motorists can be cited if their vehicles stall or get stuck in the snow on snow emergency routes during a snow emergency.
City officials urge residents to move their vehicles off snow emergency routes when winter weather storms are predicted so vehicles do not get plowed in or stranded.
