In
1997 Cincinnati City Council member Nick Vehr recognized
that Cincinnati’s historic low home ownership rate did
not have a positive impact on the publicity Cincinnati
received nationwide.
Vehr invited
representatives from the Cincinnati Area Board of
REALTORS® to discuss a possible partnership with the
City to generate interest in city living. These
initial efforts were then capitalized on by Mayor
Roxanne Qualls in creating the City Council approved
Cincinnati Home Ownership Partnership.
Cincinnati Area
Board of REALTORS® staff participated on the Education,
Counseling and Marketing Committee to develop the
details of the Cincinnati Real Estate Ambassador
Program. Several marketing tools that could be used by
REALTORS including a video –
Cincinnati: A City Worth Coming Home To and
A Guide to Neighborhoods booklet were created
through this committee.
These initial
activities were the genesis for the Cincinnati Real
Estate Ambassador Program. In August of 1997 all area
REALTORS® were invited to attend “Know Cincinnati Sell
Cincinnati” educational program at the Cincinnati
Convention Center. The program for the event featured
speakers covering each area of city living including
schools, safety, housing stock, and downtown viability.
From that group over 150 applied to be Cincinnati Real
Estate Ambassadors. Mayor Qualls then selected 81
REALTORS® to serve as the first ever Cincinnati Real
Estate Ambassadors. |
