April 2017 Fair Housing Month
By Mark Quarry
Director of Government Affairs
April 2017 marks the 49th anniversary of the landmark 1968 Fair Housing Act and the 100th anniversary of the 1917 U.S. Supreme Court Buchanan vs. Warley decision that outlawed zoning on the basis of race.
Nationwide each year, REALTORS® recognize the significance of these events and reconfirm our commitment to upholding fair housing law as well as our commitment to offering equal professional service to all in their search for real property.
No person of this country should have the right to rent or purchase shelter of choice abridged because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identity.
Furthermore, these rights should not be limited because of existing or desired ethnic, racial or religious proportions in any defined area.
