CABR Leaders Meet with County Officials on Proposed Tax Increase
CABR Leaders Meet with County Officials on Proposed Tax IncreaseOn Friday October 27th, CABR Board of Directors and members from the Advocacy & Legislative Committee and the RPAC Committee met with Hamilton County Commissioner Todd Portune and Hamilton County Administrator Jeff Aluotto.
Administrator Aluotto recently submitted his recommended 2018 to the Hamilton County Commissioners. In his 2018 Budget, he recommends increasing the Property Transfer Tax by 1 mill to pay for a budget shortfall in the 911 Hamilton County Communications Center.
The current Hamilton County Property Transfer Tax is 3 mills for every property transfer. If commissioners vote to increase it by 1 mill (which would be a 33% increase), Hamilton County’s Property Transfer Tax would total 4 mills – the maximum allowed by state law.
Hamilton County Commissioners have scheduled (3) Public Hearings on the recommended Property Transfer Tax increase. The first occurred last Wednesday. Director of Government Affairs Mark Quarry testified at the hearing and spoke out against the recommended increase. Hamilton County Recorder Norbert Nadel joined Quarry and spoke against the proposed Property Transfer Tax increase.
The next two Public Hearings are scheduled for Wednesday November 1st in Green Township and Monday November 6 in Sycamore Township. Times and locations are TBA.

Tell them that discriminating against Property Owners and forcing them to be the only ones who will pay extra to bail out a 911 Communications Center funding gap is not fair and will only make it harder for people to buy and sell property in Hamilton County!
As Commissioner David Pepper was quoted in 2007 when then-County Administrator Patrick Thompson proposed a Property Transfer Tax increase, “We’re trying to get more people to move into Hamilton County and buy houses; we can’t be charging them more to do it.”
