Ohio, Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati finished at the top of Site Selection magazine’s annual rankings of new economic development project announcements.

The magazine, much watched amongst economic development professionals, ranked Kentucky first and Ohio second in terms of number of projects announced per capita.

“It’s a very exciting time for Kentucky’s economy — more and more companies are seeing the value of doing business in the Commonwealth,” Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear told the magazine.

Ohio also finished second to Texas when it came to overall number of projects announced, with 582.

When it came to metropolitan areas, Cincinnati finished third in the nation, up from sixth last year. It landed 196 projects, including General Electric’s new U.S. global operations center, finishing behind Houston and Chicago.

“Greater Cincinnati is not an overnight success,” Johnna Reeder, president and CEO of the Regional Economic Development Initiative (REDI) Cincinnati, told the magazine in an interview. “While other regions fought to hang on during the 2008 recession, Cincinnati doubled down with investment in infrastructure and housing. It’s created an environment where new companies are moving to town and expanding. Cincinnati is hot right now.”
