REALTOR® Safety Tips

REALTOR® safety is a top priority for CABR.  There are a wide variety of resources available to help you take steps in reducing your risk of an incident occurring.  We encourage our members to make a year-round commitment to safety by staying aware and informed.

Know The Numbers:
NAR recently released the the 2015 Member Safety Report that breaks down the results of a survey of REALTORS® that asked about:

  • How safe or unsafe they feel
  • The root causes of any unsafe feelings
  • Steps or procedures they follow to ensure safety
  • What methods of self-defense they use

According to this report, 96% of REALTORS® have not experienced any type of crime while working as a real estate professional.  The goal of the report is to measure and understand the scope of the problem, so that real estate professionals can develop the resources, programs, and technologies they need to keep themselves safe.

Prepare Your Plan:
Build your safety strategy and take comfort in the fact that you have a plan in place to deal with any type of situation. Having a plan in place prior to an incident occurring could be a matter of life and death.  Take the time to read through NAR’s Safety Presentations and create a plan that works best for you.

Stay Informed:
As a part of your year-round commitment to safety, make sure to attend as many webinars and trainings you can regarding safety. NAR has a library of safety videos and webinars discussing safety tips available for viewing at any time.
